Cubic
Tactile Sculpture (3D printed bioplastic, acrylic enamel, metallic enamel, LED bulb)
Dimensions: 8” x 8” x 8”
The imagery in this piece was created with a technique developed by the artist that visualizes raw binary data from a computer file. The binary digits become pixels in an image.
This black cube has many small square, angular cutouts in it. From behind the cutouts, white light shows through. Closer in, the cutouts in the cube have a depth that is painted silver and glows with the white light. The cutouts themselves form abstract patterns, but with imagination perhaps figurative images emerge. There are three different patterns, each of them mirroring on the opposite face as if a single cut was made through the entire cube. It’s apparent that these patterns are formed from a collection of squares of the same size, connected together.
