The Nile
Vinyl cutouts with tactile sculpture (vinyl, 3D printed bioplastic)
Dimensions: 22” x 75” (vinyl cutouts), 5” x 8” (tactile sculpture)
There are two black vinyl cutouts on the white wall each two feet high and 3 feet wide. In the center of them is a small white 3d printed sculpture. The vinyl cutouts are blocky forms, tracing abstract lines and shapes that could be figurative if one so chose. The figure on the left has two vertical lines on either side ending on the top with blocks that tip inward. Between them is a collection of connected lines that form shapes. Perhaps the one on the left is three pillars with a candle between them, perhaps it's a praying feline, maybe it could be a house with a window. Or perhaps just a collection of meaningless black blocks.
The one on the right contains a blocky form with a vertical line on the left and another horizontal line below the vertical. The blocky form evokes a face with an arm holding a staff, or is it a curved white hewn tree? Perhaps a fisherman on the banks of the Nile, across from the Queen’s cat.
The white, smooth tactile sculpture is a small version of the vinyl cutouts set in relief. It’s square blocks follow the images on the vinyl exactly.
